Guide to locks
You can use existing locks but you need to make sure of the following:
- they still work well
- the finish of the lock face plates matches those of the new door handles
- the existing lock is the correct type of lock. (i.e. a bathroom lock if you are using a turn and release, and not an ordinary sashlock)
WHAT LOCKS DO I NEED?
For a lever lock which has a keyhole you will need a Sash lock eg code: JL170NP, this is our budget quality 3 lever sash lock or code: JL3000, this is our architectural quality 3 lever sash lock.
For a lever latch you will need either a tubular latch, eg code: JL120. A better quality version is the code: JL6666 which is double sprung and would be more for commercial use or with doors that are used frequently. The JL6666 is the best latch for all our levers on rose as it has the through holes to take the back to back bolts. You may prefer the mortice latch code:JL4050, this is also double sprung
For a bathroom set you will need a bathroom lock eg code: JL150, this is our budget version. Our architectural quality lock is the code: JL8888, this is recommended for all our levers on rose as it contains the holes to accomodate the back to back bolts for the roses.

ARCHITECTURAL QUALITY LOCKS
Our architectural quality locks come with three types of lock hole:
* the standard lock which is the most common type that works with a chubb key. Code: JL3000
* the euro sash lock Code: JL7000
* the oval sash lock Code: JL7050
The euro and oval locks require a cylinder which has a Yale type key. These locks are more specialised and you for most internal doors it is unlikely that these locks would be used. We now have a lock Code: JL4444 which has a dual purpose fitting for both Euro and Oval cylinders
LOCK SIZES
Also important is that most locks come in 2 sizes, 63mm (2.5")and 76mm (3"). This is the depth of the lock, if a backset measurement is given this is the distance from the face plate to the centre of the spindle. All our case locks have lock centres of 57mm. If you want all your handles to match throughout the house then you ideally want all the locks ie tubular latches, bathroom locks and sash locks to match ie all 63mm or all 76mm. You should also match the finish of the locks to the handles. For chrome and satin chrome handles pick the locks with Stainless Steel finish and for brass handles the polished brass or electro brass plate.
For levers on backset, 63mm locks are the most common. Levers on rose use either 63mm (backset 45mm) or 76mm (backset 57mm). If you think the door you have will look better with the furniture further into the door use the 76mm locks, You need to take into account the depth of side panel and consider variations on glass panelled doors.
It is likely that Mortice Knobs may require 100mm (4") locks. Although these are not on the web site they can be specially ordered but may take 7-10 days to get. Please call us for prices and delivery times.
IMPORTANT. With all our levers on rose, they can fit to the doors either by simply screwing onto the doors or by using the back to back bolts which go through the door and go through holes in the lock. This method is more likely to be needed if you have doors which may be hollow or not good quality wooden doors.
