I want my doors to open 180° what hinges do I need to use?

Parliament hinges are used for doors that require an opening of 180º degrees. Such door openings usually have to clear a projection. This clearance can also be overcome by using a projection hinge.

Parliament hinges and projection hinges are not very different. The parliament hinge is a more historical hinge which has been used for many years. The projection hinge is a newer version of the hinge which also allows the door to overcome a clearance.

The difference between these two hinges is the knuckle size. The projection hinge has a slightly larger knuckle which makes the hinge slightly stronger than the parliament hinge. Projection hinges are normally square in shape, i.e. 5"x5".  The only drawback with using parliament hinges over projection hinges is the reduction in strength caused by the knuckle being cut away. You must ensure that you use the correct size hinge for your door weight.
